ABOUT US
Oregon Ecobuilding Network became a nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation in December 1999 with many thanks to dedicated volunteer advisors and sponsorship from the Pacific Northwest Foundation. Words cannot express our members' gratitude for their guidance and funding support for three years in which hundreds of people were educated and helped through our seminars. We developed from the volunteer run Portland's Allergy & Chemically Injured Support Group and our name change reflects our focus on the importance of a toxic-free healthy home. Our nonprofit grassroots organization is run by chemically injured for the benefit of those who have chronic disabilities due to injury from the impact of manmade, synthetic toxic chemicals, often from workplace exposures. Our symbol is the golden feather of the canary in the coal mine which indicates hazard to human health. from air pollution. Our prayer circle focus is on mutual support with guidance from Virginia Barber, Carmelite Order. We offer products including cards of the Icon Archangel Raphael handpainted by Virginia Barber, Master Iconographer, Carbon and Zeolite filled masks with colorful cotton covers, books by Dan Morris, Environmental Engineer and John Bower of the Healthy House Institute, Organic Angora Handspun Handknit Hats, Family Tree Quilts and more crafts.
OR Ecobuilding Network supporters are volunteers from the local community who are dedicated to assisting each other in promoting home, school, and workplace environments that will not trigger or exacerbate chronic illness while advocating for reasonable accommodation. For example, we have provided education on the value of mercury-free, latex-free and perfume-free dental and medical offices.
The mission of Oregon Ecobuilding Network is a commitment to make a positive difference on toxic-free living in healthy buildings with public education directed at chemically injured patients, medical professionals, environmentally related organizations, school systems, media, and regulatory agencies.
